Meet the ZAP Team: Rohit Kanwara

After joining the company in July 2018 as a Sales Executive, Rohit now heads up the whole EMEA region of ZAP. As a well-known friendly face to many of our customers, we decided to feature him for April’s staff spotlight. Get to know him here!

Hi Rohit, thanks for joining us for April’s Staff Spotlight! First thing’s first… you manage ZAP’s EMEA region, but where exactly are you based?
I’ve been living in England for the past 12 years and am currently based in Guildford, Surrey.

What does your job entail?

Managing people and processes within the EMEA region to achieve a common goal/business target for month/quarter/year.

What is a typical day like?

Lots of meetings and a lot of decision making. Some are easy and some are tricky but if I stall then the whole process stalls which is why as much as possible I try to empower the team and give them the autonomy/support/trust to make decisions.

What’s a common question you get from customers?

“How do I get data from my ERP system?” – Unfortunately, a lot of people believe that BI is easy and everything happens in an instant. Only once they get into the detail it becomes clear that there is a large part around “Data management / Data Preparation” that needs to be done before the data is reasonably ready for your BI tool to build reports from. A lot of the times people fall at the first hurdle itself i.e. connecting and bringing data from the ERP system to the BI tool….and this is where ZAP Data Hub shines.

What do you like most about your job?

Making the team successful and helping them achieve their individual goals. Because only then I am able to achieve mine.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I’m a big sports fan, particularly cricket, football and Formula 1. I also love reading legal thrillers and recently I’ve taken up running which is probably a side effect of all the lockdown!

What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

I make a killer Indian curry.

Who are your favourite sports teams?

Football – Sunderland AFC.

Who are your favourite bands/artists?

No favorites really, but I am a big fan of pop music.

What are your favourite movies?

Has to be a good psychological thrillers that really messes with your head like Gone Girl… Oh and anything from Christopher Nolan!

What’s your signature dish?

Punjabi Kadi – Indian curry made with curd, gram flour and onion fritters.

How would you describe the difference ZAP Data Hub makes to a customer… In just one sentence!

It makes BI self-serviced.

What are some of the differences of working at ZAP in contrast to other companies?

The challenge and the ambition at this company… The ambition of where we want to go and how quickly… and the challenge of how to get there.

Who would play you in the movie of your life?

Matt Damon… I’m a big fan of his.
