Meet the ZAP Team: Kevin Tan

Kevin’s a long-term Zapper.  He joined the business back in 2006 when he handled channel sales in our Singapore office.  14 years later and he’s heading up the worldwide professional services division from our LA office.  But what makes him tick, and how does he feel about ZAP after all these years?

Hi Kevin, where are you talking to us from?
I’m based in Santa Monica in California, having moved over here from my home city of Singapore.

What are some of the differences of working for ZAP versus other companies you’ve worked for?
I’ve worked with ZAP a long time, and what I appreciate most is not having to traverse the kind of politics I found in my previous companies.

How would you describe the difference ZAP Data Hub makes, in just one sentence?
I would say… Why spend hours figuring out how to get data when you can get it straight from the ZAP Data Hub model?

What is a typical working day like for you?
Administration in the morning, check in with our customer team in the Eastern time zone and Europe, work on customers in both US time zones from the morning to afternoon, and check in with our APAC team from the late afternoon to evening.

And what do you get up to when you aren’t working?
I would go to the beach and do a short 15-20 minute jog.  Also, being away from family back in Singapore means I get to catch up with them on video early in the morning on weekends.

What are you into on the sports and music front?
I don’t watch that much sport, but I do love watching documentaries on cross-fit.  Those athletes are inspirational. For music, it’s Coldplay, and U2.

What’s a common question you get from customers?
Am I doing what I can within the product, and what else can I use ZAP Data Hub for?

What do you like most about being Head of Professional Services?
The people.  I have a great team, I enjoy working with people from sales, pre-sales and customer success, as we work in tandem to on-board new customers and develop new ones.

OK let’s cut to the chase. We’re coming round for dinner tonight. What’s on the food menu, and what’s on the Netflix menu?
I’ll be cooking ribeye steak and onions.  As for TV, dramas on life and historical events are mainly my thing. I just watched Seasons 1 and 2 of Narcos and was hooked.  Narcos Mexico is next!
